In the last year and a half due to our environmental credentials and service level, BioTravel has made national papers, magazines and T.V. on numerous occasions.  As we continue to push the boundries of green transport and make the unfeasible feasible, we would like to offer journalists the chance to come and see what we are all about.

Points of Specific Interest

• BioTravel is currently operating its fleet on a varying mixture of sustainably sourced biodiesel and mineral diesel.  During winter months, the mixture is no less than 50/50.  In the summer months the biodiesel content increases up to 90%.  This helps to avoid problems associated with biodiesel and temperature.

• BioTravel has recently had its first (test) vehicle converted to run on 100% vegetable oil.  If the technology proves successful, the rest of the fleet will be converted.  The oil will be sourced from all of the hotels and restaurants within Cornwall, and purified in-house using our specially designed processing plant. This will make our fuel about as sustainable as you can get!

• The price of biodiesel is almost exactly the same is mineral diesel and so there is no cost saving to be made.  We opperate using the price structure dictated from the local council and so our fares are exactly the same as other companies operating in our area.

• The directors of BioTravel do not come from within the transport industry.  We have an ex-pro kitesurfer, a mountain boarding instructor/primary school teacher, a beach ranger and ecology specialist and a kitesurfing instructor.  This means that we think differently to other transport companies.  We have a 'why not?' attitude when it comes to trying new ideas and any problems only help us to operate better in the future.  Our fresh perspective and views on service levels have helped to make Biotravel the most professional passenger transport company in Cornwall.

• We are already looking at new technologies to increase the efficiency of our vehicles.  On board Hydrogen Cells that inject Browns Gas into the air intake and increase the combustion of fuel increasing vehicle efficiency and power by upto 20% are being looked into.  Wind turbines and soalr cells will be used to supply the power needed to clean our used vegetable oil.
